I know it's been covered, but I'm very keen on doing a Scooby conversion. Is that better?

@Grazzer Did you know that if you go to your first post you will see "Thread tools" and you can edit the thread title?

  3. I haven't visited this thread for a little while Zed, do you think I should change the title?

I now have a 98 Scooby impreza Sport sat in my workshop, complete and running and ready to donate it's vital organs...... It's high mileage but runs like a Swiss watch, has no oil leaks and did a fifty mile journey home with no issues.

For those interested, I'm going to detail the strip down in my post "the tango Scooby bus" and detail what's required from the donor. I. Hope it's going to make things easier for all :)

"I'm" instead of "I" would be good - it makes you sound like you're from Bristol. :)

  7. Just come back to this thread after a while, and after wading through several pages - just wanted to mention something about the diesel debate. After I'd had the scooby done, there was a part of me that had started kicking myself that maybe I should have considered diesel instead, however at the MOT station for my normal car, I got into conversation with the tester and he made a point that I hadn't considered. Modern diesels (post-2000 ones anyway) are monumentally complicated. He said that given the choice for a car, he would go for N/A petrol and as uncomplicated as possible. This is a thing to consider. OK, so I have made my possible breakdown issues more complicated by switching to a modern, ECU controlled engine covered in sensors, but I think things would be a whole lot more complex with a diesel with turbo, dual-mass flywheel, etc etc and what might happen if that goes wrong at the roadside.

Remember engines these days have a whole world of regulations that they have to comply with that just weren't around when our buses were made and so are covered in all sorts of devices to try and comply.

are emision tests as strict with for a camper van as a modern car

if there not will mine still fall under the camper van rules now ive switched engines

  9. No, the old regs apply - which is why my Scooby no longer has a cataytic converter on it.

However, a lot of the design of these modern engines is not so removeable, and that's what concerns me about complicated engines. Variable vane turbos, dual-mass flywheels, etc.

I spoke to Dave at Fellows yesterday, they were just fitting a 420 bhp STi engine in a single cab. It's going to be brutal!

  11. It'll be like that Volvo T5-engined Beetle that sold on ebay the other day - not to be driven in the wet! :D

I think its Perry's brothers van. They're currently trying to persuade him to fit a roll-cage!

  13. For the purpose of a strip toy ?

    Street and strip I think.
If all works out they're going to do rides at the pod.

    I think its a split.
I'm going up to see it in a couple of weeks, sounds like a beast!

  17. VNT turbos are very reliable and most cars now have the option of solid flywheels to replace DM flywheels.....

  18. Has anyone got any ideas about heating? My Tango bus gas got built in A/C, and I'm thinking I could incorporate the heater into this - it's the under dash type, not sure who it was made by?

  19. One of the benefits of modern engines is OBD11 ports - this helps to identify issues and makes the problems simple to sort. You can by a proper OBD11 code reader from Sealey these days for about £60!
