Stripped the engine down this week and it looks like very good news. It's always been a tappety engine and the oil light would flicker when idleing or braking down hills. I've just assumed it was worn out. All the bolts came out ok All gaskets seem fresh Heads and valves look new Barrels and pistons look new Camshaft and lifters all good Crank and bearings look good What i did find was that the oil pick up pipe just rattles arround in the oil pump hole. The 'o' ring is too small and rock hard. I'm getting the crank tested anyway, but hoping this will be a cheap rebuild ) ;D )
Your exhaust is the same as mine too. I replaced my cat with a replacement pipe available from Heritage. I'm waiting for mine to fall to bits and then replace with the European type one. Seems less complicated than the later Stateside one.
wow amazin bus mate could i ask what are the front seats out of they look like you could just melt into them
I think you're almost certainly right about the o-ring. I have a friend who bought a 2l vege engine when his went bang. The oil light came on each time he slowed to a junction or roundabout. He got it to go off by accelerating as hard as he could. He couldn't be bothered to get into a dispute with vege, so put up with it for years. I worked out what it must be/he got sick of it and I took it to bits to see if I was right. This is what I found... New o-ring and it's been fine ever since.
Interesting. I've heard about things like that with Vege and Remtec, thats why i'm having a go at my own rebuild. I,ve got all the parts now, just need some time. It should come in at about £500 O0
Most of my parts have came from Stateside Tuning. Very friendly and helpfull. Got some tips on the rebuild. I,m fiiting steel backed mains and stainless exhaust valves. Not the cheapest but i only want to do this job once. ;D
Hi matey - the oil pickup o-ring seal - Thinking about it, I remember the one I took out was rock hard too as well as being kinked, so I got a bag of viton (high temp) seals. If you want one PM me your address.
Got engine together today as far as heads on . All went well. It would have been nice to get the block cleaner on the outside but i 've spent too long already on this. All the important bits were clean. Its like a mix of dried on sand/ cement. Must be something to do with being from Arizona.
Maybe someone can shed some light on a small problem i have. When i removed the relief valve from the side of the block i found a brass plunger but no spring. I thought nothing of it so ordered a new spring. Now when i have come to fit the parts something does not match up. This first photo is what was in the engine when i stripped it. The new spring fits inside the bolt but not over the plunger. The hole thing is too long to fit in the hole. More importantly if you forget about the spring the bolt will acctually press the plunger hard against the hole inside the block!!! Is this some kind of mod. or maybe the wrong plunger. ???
