Hub caps

  1. hi all thanks for help with getting van started. Was new battery, which I even managed to change In right order this time! I am slowly learning.

We have a set of hub caps on van which are fine but not the older type. Was given an older set with van and have finally got round to trying to get rid of some rust. Done some wd40 cleaning and a wipe and they look a lot better but not great. They have a few dents and scratches that won’t come out at all I guess but some rust spots. Any ideas to make it better? Can you spray them. Had considered waxoyling inside to slow the rusting. Can they be powder coated? If so how much would that cost and how much is new set or good quality second?

  2. Have you tried screwed up kitchen foil , normally does the trick with a bit of lube or even water .

  3. Get some autosol or similar, it does a pretty good job of getting most of the rust off, and a top tip I learnt:

If you have any small rust spots, polish or use some fine wet n dry and then put a small dob of superglue on it and sand back - works excellent on pitted motorbike fork stantions.

  5. Yes that's an biker tip I heard donkey's years ago, only I was told to use Araldite. I'll be trying it on the MZ when I get round to it. The stanchions are hidden by gaiters and aren't seen, so as long as they don't leak, job's a good 'un!
