HT Leads and Plugs BOSCH

  1. Hello all,

I have a new set of plugs and HT leads, both bosch for my 1600 TP engine

plugs are W8AC short reach, and the leads are 7.0mm made in USA

question is, the leads don't fit onto the plugs, unless I remove the caps and expose the threaded section, then the lead will push onto the thread and lock into place.
is this ok or normal, the leads currently fitted are cheapo ones, but do push onto the spark plug cap

  2. Thats normal for Bosch leads.

As is now paying north of £60 for a type 4 set. What scene tax?

  3. That's how they're supposed to fit on.

  8. Or...if you're baking cakes, use them instead of those little round silver decorations

  9. How much?
A 30m reel of HT lead and some caps would come in at half that.

  10. And that's why I refuse to buy them... Just because two plug caps are twice the length, and one lead is only 6ins long

  11. I just discovered a couple of my t4 engine plug caps have corroded. The cable is ok if I cut the last 1/4 inch off, and I can get the short plug caps ok at a sensible price, but the long ones don't seem to be obtainable on their own. No way I'm spending £70 on a new set of leads, and the repro set at £30 isn't very appealing either. There's a bewildering array of different plug caps out there for other cars and bikes and one of them must fit. Has anybody worked this one out?

  12. The cheaper Bosch set is naff- Carbon filaments, moulded plugs... urgh. Last set I bought (yet to return) were over 11Kohms as new on the long leads.

I'd recommend making them yourself, if you can get decent plug end caps :)

keep the old metal bits and the old longest lead and the coil lead as spares in the van for when the bosch ones fail

  14. Just to confirm, it's only the bakelite plug end caps that are the problem. I can get two of the short ones from the usual suppliers, but nobody does the long ones, unless I buy a full set of leads and caps. (Bosch quality is ca. £70 a set)

I have found some NGK ones which aren't as long as the originals but which I think might do.

Take a look at Taylor Spiro Pro lead sets. People like Coolair and Stateside Tuning sell these. About £35 a set of 10mm and £24 a set of 8mm dia.
Really nicely made silicone lead sets.
You can slide the heat shield rings up and down the plug boots and they provide the centre lead as uncut around 18inches long for you to fit coils in different places.
The only difference is you leave the little caps on the plugs .
I got a set of 8mm leads at Volksworld for £27 from Stateside Tuning.. not as good a price as today...
