Are you one the fortunates who has a 9 til 5 type job or one of the seemingly increasing crowd doing way and above a 40 hour week?

Myself I begin work Monday morning at about 5.30 from our yard ( it was 4 am but I told him to cut that out as I’m paid daily not hourly) I usually finish about 7 at night somewhere up country have a night out in my truck and begin again as soon as possible the next morning.

I do a 4 day week which consists of 3 15 hour days and one final 12 hour day and I sleep in the truck three nights.

I’m not moaning lorry driving has always been that way if you want a decent ish wage, but I’m sure this getting older lark doesn’t make it any easier!

Five days a week 7.30am to 15.30pm..but more and more we’re working past 17.00 hours.

it’s taken 8 months of us arguing with our Manager to get toil time back.

in the next four / five years both of us are going to push towards dropping a day down to a 30 hour week.

What is this "work " you speak of?

  6. One thing I’ve always wondered about lorry drivers sleeping in their trucks. How do you have a poo?

I think there’s a fair few retirees on here now. I nearly did it last year when I got laid off from my old place, but after three months of doing what I wanted I got bored and missed work. I think I should have taken a slightly easier job though

I've been retired five years now and I still don't have time to do the things I want to!

I don’t know about others I’ve seen some horrendous lay by messes, but I tend to use the facilities at the mills during the day, and obviously service stations. Most mills and services provide a free shower and full toilet facilities. It does get a bit worrying at times, but unless you have a dicky tummy or you’re the sort that doesn’t mind going behind an hedge you can usually get to a service station.

  15. I think it depends on whether you're lucky enough to do somethings that you enjoy - I've never had a job I enjoy and have chased money for far too long - but I slipped into semi retirement last year as I got fed up with chasing invoices and wondering if I was going to get ripped off.

I'm going to either concentrate on house bashing, or get some PAYE employed work but no way am I doing unpaid overtime - that's a slippery slope that a lot of people have become trapped in - when you pro-rata unpaid hours you might only be hovering around the national living wage? It's too early in the year for politics, but I can't see that changing for the better in the next five years

  18. Good luck, that's a $hite way to treat people - unfortunately a lot of people will turn a blind eye to that provided it doesn't affect them personally.

My son has been working in the village pub for a few months - worked Christmas Day, New Years eve and is back in today. He's been checking his payslips against his timesheets and they've been underpaying him - and it's not a little local pub, its one of the biggest pub operators in the country.

  19. I do 8 till 4 Monday to Friday, that's quite enough thanks:thumbsup: on the other hand MrsNTFC is at work from 8 until at least 5.30-6pm and then spends probably around another 10 hours a week dealing with problems from home during all hours. Plus she regularly has to go to Exeter, Manchester, Leeds or London for 5am driver meetings which usually means an overnight stopover:( Probably explains why she earns double what I do!

It's the perfect job for me as I can take time off to look after my wife when she isn't so good, I can go off fishing/ football when I like and I can work whenever I like
