  2. Sorry to go off thread but have a question for olnow, do you have any problems with your skylight on your pop top? Does it ever leak? Im just rebuilding a rear hinging westy roof and not sure whether to keep the skylight. Thanks.

  5. The skylight used to be a bit iffy. Got new one from Gunzl at Vanfest ( old one warped). Woolies Trim provided a new seal. Seem to remember I had to drill out rivets to fit the seal.
Doesn't leak at all, and I would keep it. Usually leave mine open when parked on sunny days, to keep a bit of air moving.

I think only euro spec westies got these (not USA buses).

Quick update on the mold / bleach.. Just back from very wet trip to Norfolk. Clean bit of roof showed that water was seeping in round the pull down handle. Maybe thats why it was so moldy? No loss of flock, or bleach odour thou. I must do the rest!

  8. Good job. :)

I know what I'm doing first chance I get.
    Water & bleach 10:1

  9. Wife cleaned ours with lemon juice and a tooth brush .Had the same effect as the bleach but smells better & if it drips does not bleach the fabrics. Did take a while though.

  11. I did mine with the bleach/water solution yesterday. I would post the pictures, but they would be redundant. I had the same results as seen above. Looks spankin' new. And mine might have been a bit moldier, as South Houston is a humid swampy bayou.
But yes, I spread out sheets and towels to protect everything, then I just carefully sponged the solution on with a small kitchen sponge.
I chose not to rinse it. The whitening action of bleach is only active while it's wet, so it shouldn't hurt anything. (according to what I learned in chemistry class) Then when it gets damp again the bleach residue will rehydrate and keep future mildew at bay.
    That's the theory anyway. ;)
Whichever method you use, (I wish I had waited a day. I would have used lemons instead, had I known!) just do it. It makes a world of difference. My roof was such an eyesore I just avoided looking at it. Now it's like a whole new roof. Yay!
