One of many things that doesn't work!

I put a test light from the negative terminal on the horn to the body work... got light and no sound : does this mean the horn is dead?

Also, whipped the horn push off and can't see a terminal for the ring to make contact with. There are the three screw fittings in the boss, one hole with the cable to the horn push and one vacant hole... any chance someone could pop their plastic cap off and take a piccy for me?

Checked the Haynes manual and it's a bit silent on the boss!

    Cheers, Andy.

have you checked the actual noisy bit? use a drill battery and wire on its terminals just to make sure it works.
my steering wheel hasnt got a horn push so i cant help you there mate!

  6. Weirdly I have the opposite problem. Mine is doing a little miss sunshine so i have had to unplug it. I thought it was water in the connections as it started after a heavy downpour at Whitenoise but alas the is not the cause :dizzy

The horn will have 2 wires one is live and goes to the fuse box.
The outher will go to the bottom of the steering column near the steering box and connect to the outer part of the column.

Under the steering wheel will be a bent bit of metal touching the bottom of the wheel and fixed to the outer column
then a wire goes from the bottom of the wheel through the steering wheel and contacts with a sprung plate of the steering wheel

When you press the button it connects the live outer column to the center shaft
The current travels to the rubber donut at the bottom of the shaft where a link wire connects to the steering box bolt the steering box is bolted to earth so compleating the circle.

A lot of people give up on this and fit a switch to the dash.

the horn push should have a wire going to it, is there a space for a spade terminal to it onto the horn push? the wire usualy runs down thw hole in the centre of the steering column. so if you wanted to remove the nut on the steering wheel you would have to disconnet the wire first.

ah yes sorry mate yours is later, the wire goes through the sterring wheel and contacts with a sprung plate on the steering column, if you look between the steering wheel and the column surround you should see it, could be thats not getting a good contact

  13. Ours works intermittintlenty, then when it works, it goes off every time you turn corners!

  14. For the intermittent problems you need to bend the brass arm under the steering wheel up so that it makes a good connection all the time, give it a rub over with sand paper to be sure as well, do the same to the brass ring on the bottom of the steering wheel.

For those that it doesn't work, first disconnect the horn and use the drill battery trick to be sure that it is actually working right. This is usually the main problem.

When you push the horn button what happens is the metal ring underneath with the spade connector makes a connection with the metal plate below it, this in turn completes the circuit as explained in a previous post. If the horn doesn't sound check the earth and connectors at the base of the steering column, as pointed out above.

    Beeeeeeep!!

  19. sonds like the contact to the horn push needs bending up more to mmake a good conection, mine was hard to get to operate so i cleaned it up and all the connections and all ok,
