I'll be looking to start building the cooker cabinet over the next weeks. I'm going for a swing-out style unit located near to the sliding door and would like a 2 burner hob and grill, something like this, instead of a flush fit unit (I like grilled bacon!). Does anyone have the below, or recommend one to avoid/go for?

  2. I've got the swing out devon cooker from the 70s.

I've seen these sort of things at go outdoors and thought the quick cook feature looked good.

Unless you are mounting the cooker to its unit, I'd go for some quick release gas fittings so you could remove the cooker and use it on another outdoor surface.

I've got quick release gas fitting near my gas bottle, so i can remove it and use on other gas appliances like a cadac bbq.

An outdoor cooker with wind shields that don't get in the way of your pans. I like and now I've seen it I wonder why cookers haven't always been like this. Is it a printers/cartridges situation with cookers? Get you hooked on calor and wasting it too. If I fill my butane (2kg?) it costs more than filling my 13kg propane.

  6. Yes it is bizarre how much gas costs in different 'manufacturers containers'.

Camping gaz is the biggest rip off 2.72kg of butane is at least £25 (unless you get it from Eddie).

Those underslung tanks filled up on LPG at the petrol station are good, but they are expensive to buy & fit

  7. Good man - it`s not functional unless it has a grill

I`ve got Thetford / Spinflo thing but i wouldn`t really recommend it as the grill is fine for bacon etc but there`s no windshield and minor gripe is the grill isn`t high enough to finish off a pasta bake or something similar - great for toast or bacon though ;)

I picked it up second hand so can`t really complain as the cooker i planned to use was 85 mm wider and wouldn`t fit in ....
Agree about fitting a quick release gas connector so it can be used in an awning , free standing outside etc etc ...

The dodgy old Devon cooker for me. Free standing its great under a sun awning in France.
Inside the bus for cups of tea, or swung out into a big awning with the cover as a work surface table behind it (you screw a leg in and refit it after swinging the cooker. )

Two of the expensive Camping Gaz cylinders sitting in it. One full for when the other one runs out, and I have to either take it to Eddie or pay £30...

  12. @JamesLey i can remember my folks having one of these for camping if you wanted to go retro, the grill section collapses into the body so it looks nice & neat when not in use. Might be hard to find though

    It most certainly is!
Could chuck a leg of lamb in that as I leave the house, and have a full roast ready by the time I get to a campsite. :D

Whatever it is they just roasted a sparrow and some new potatoes in it.
Or a pigs trotter. Good luck. I had a similar oven on my first boat - epic fail, too small to be much practical use... and bang goes your pub Sunday lunch excuse.
