Well, new filter, changed pipe to tank, been on a run and it's better but not right.

Been cruising the seafront at a steady 30 and come to the end I try bring the speed up and it still bogs down. The filter is staying full now, so I guess I moved something changing the last pipe.

Removing the fuel cap had no effect whatsoever!! :D

I might try it again with the fuel pump lmounted" low down... Starting to lose the will to live though!!

  2. is that secondary bowl after the fuel pump a pressure regulator?

Yep, but it's been bypassed for much of this process to eliminate it being at fault.

I've just had a look at it and it too has a little bit of muck in the filter, but nothing like the pre-pump filter.

I think I've just lost the will to live...

If it is dragging crud down into the filter try fitting a pipe that will go into the gas tank out let but is long enough to sit higher than the bottom of the tank.

We did this in mine. Due to the tank having so much rust in it, it use to block the pipe before the filter with fragments of rust.

The only down side is that you would loose some mileage from a tank because you always had some sitting in the bottom but you only really need it to be an inch higher.

Another thing, did you notice any crud in the tank when you removed the fuel sender?? You could also try putting a magnet in there to attract the crud.

I would also suggest you fit a pressure gauge to see what pressure the system is running over the rev range.

  6. your tank isnt one of those with a filter in the tank is it? if you undo the union on the bottom of the tank some have a filter atached  i think most have rotted off or been cut out by now

Have done with it and buy an import tank? I've had a few from FBI and they've all been like new inside. Approx £100 inc delivery.

If it wasn't a "bad" tank, why would you need to seal it?

  11. Have you tried using a temporary fuel supply? You will need to take some safety precautions as its petrol but it will eliminate the tank

Have you tried fitting a pressure gauge in the fuel system and running the engine over a varying rev range??

Have you also tried getting it warm, holding it at a constant rev and seeing if it starves itself of fuel?? Also with a pressure gauge fitted??

I very much doubt there will be crud in the carbs. The simple fact that it starts as runs well until warm suggests otherwise.

Have you checked the electrics to the coil?? What are the readings?? Are there any fluctuations or drops in the voltage etc??

    Hi everyone...

I'm not minded to replace the tank... I'm going to get some photos this week of the inside and see how well my memory serves me... and to see if theres a loose sticker in the tank! I'd be happy to run it down to nowt and try to replace the outlet if it's possible to do in situ!

The filter is remaining full now, so there's obviously no problem with fuel gettng that far. I need to pick up a few new pipe clips and I can run my pressure gauge on the system in various places.

The tank outlet will be flush inside the tank so no dropping magnet over it, and anyway it would attract all the flakes to the outlet and block it. :)

What Zed says. I dropped a magnet into my tank that was almost in the middle while running my old tank. It worked but didn't stop all the crud coming down. But then again my old tank wasn't really that good.

Been out for another poke around. Got very little time this weekend to do anything, so very limited testing!!

I whipped off the sender and pokes the phone in the hole and took a couple of photos.

While there is sign of age, there is no distinct sign of loose material...

I took her for a quick blast onto the motorway, as I hadn't done that at close of play last weekend and she still stalled, but recovered better.

Birdy's dropped me a couple of other things to try which I'll do on Monday. I'm waiting for some new hose clips (bought a bag of 50 to change all of them) so will do the pressure tests then :0)

  18. That tank looks ok to me

Did you try a new coil?

Or maybe you have a fuel hose collapsing at high load

  20. a bit of a tangent, but have you tried a new ignition switch?
