High reading coil no spark

  1. Yeah, do you know what a high output coil should read, I don’t want to pay out for a coil if I don’t need one, but I also don’t want to pay for an auto electrician to have a lookouts to tell me I need a coil haha

    High output coil:
It has a higher secondary resistance being proportional to the length of wire wound there . Like your coil.

A normal bosch coil is said to be 3.8 ohms primary, 9000 ish secondary , although I have just measured those in my bus...

In use coil primary 2.6 , secondary 9000 (random brand came with bus 10 years ago)
Spare primary 2.6 secondary 6700 (Bosch Blue)

I think your problem is the electronic unit has been killed by something- the most likely is connecting the red and black leads reversed as I said before..
But please note, some people get years of use from electronic points , while mine go wrong about every 20000 miles. Maybe its my coil collection ( one day I will buy a new coil rather than at a swap meet..)

Oh well back out of sunshine and back to writing a Python simulation of a diesel-electric ship power system..

    Oh this sounds intriguing!

  4. I do you mean I could have killed the electronic distributor, I don’t think it’s that because I can’t get a spark from my coil at all without it even being connected to the dizzy

Yes failed electronic unit is MOST likely.
You had 0.9 volts to ground. If you turn the engine over with the coil connected this should rise to 12 volts periodically to fire the coil as the distributor rotates.

If it sits at 0.9 volts and does not change its broken.

  6. Oh okay i tried a new coil I thought you could get a spark from just the centre lead from the coil without the dizzy connected I tried this method but got no spark at all, but come to think of it I think I did connect the red and the black from the dizzy the wrong way round for a couple of turns of the engine until I realised and swapped them back
