help understanding leisure batteries

  1. i understand that AH is the hours at 1 amp an hour but what i wondering is i intended to run a cd/dvd player and a 800 watt amp with couple of sets of speakers but i wondering just how many amps this is likely to push out an hour in order to decide just how big a battery i really need

  2. The question isn't so much what size battery but more how long you want to run the system and how big your alternator is?

  3. standard alternator and split relay between batteries and prob 5 to 6 hrs at most in 1 hit but dont wanna go to small and not last and to big and waste alot of money as only taking couple of amps an hour been told amplifiers run batteries down fast

what i mean is if it takes 10 amps an hour a 100ah will last 10 hours
but if only puts out 2 amps an hour gonna last 50 hours far more than ever gonna use

  4. I did a thread in mech and tech with all the calculation on. It's there somewhere and it's all about how to wire up the leisure battery so search for that.

I would link but I'm on my phone.

  5. I'm running what is ment to be a 500w system but unless you really know what your talking about these figures are rubbish. They are based on maximum figures that wouldn't be able to listen to due to distortion etc.

Anyway I digress, let's say your running a true 800w system at full chap (baring in mind your amp, head unit and speakers all make up this amount) then you would be running at 66 amps/hour.

Therefore a standard 110 leisure battery would give you about 1 hr 4mins (approx) at full bull.

My system runs off a 80amp battery and lasts all weekend.

  6. been out and looked the speakers run at a max of 220 watts and 185 watts so total of 405 watts so realisticlly going to probably be running half that watts at most as yet to get sub

Dont get confused with speaker watts as these are different to electrical power watts and can be measured in different ways RMS etc

There are lots of ICE forums that may be worth looking at

  8. Although sound systems say 220w it doesn't mean they are actually rated at that. As said these are measured in RMS I can get all technical on you but it's not needed. If you want a banging system to run for 10 hrs then you'll need to start thinking about power caps and serial batteries. Alternatively of you just want a reasonable system to listen to over the weekend then I'm sure you'll be fine with a 110amp leisure battery.
