Split valve guide is pretty unusual, must have got damaged going in, can't you just fit an over sized guide ?

  3. I'm gonna take it to a place to see if they can fix it and if so got spare or send head back buddy , but how easy are they to pop in ur self I read they need machining in

If the guides damaged and your fitting oversized guides because the head must be damaged too, then yes it will ner machining , it's possible to do it with a hand reamer but you need the tools etc , so a machine shop is likely your best option and quickest, though a new head is a very quick fix :) and a spare head may not be a bad thing to have considering the miles your covering, I know your not keen but maybe pulling the other head isn't a bad idea, if there's nothing wrong it will only cost you an hour or so

  5. did someone say valve guides...? ;)

Whilst i'd anticipated them worn I didn't anticipate split but judging by where the engine came from nothing surprises me :)

doesn't sound terminal yet though, you should be able to get it fixed cheap enough, assuming there is no damage to the head. I'd send an e-mail to the blokes who built it for you and let them know what tossers they are. These cheap engine shops must be rolling in money. I think i'm going to start taking the crap off the rockery of shame and knocking out some injuns

  6. Will see if they will fix it I think or do I just get it sorted once and for all !!

  7. i doubt they'll fix it as you've pulled it apart but you can try, that's what a warranty is for, although i guess you've voided it. It's one of those things mate, you've bought a cheap crappy engine from known peddlers of cheap crappy engines which has got you a few thousand miles and it might get you a few thousand more - only you can decide when to stop putting money into it. Me? I'd be straight down there with a writ :)

How much are you being quoted to repair that head?

To be honest i'm surprised it got you half as far so who knows, it could go on forever.

I expect if you send them pictures of the head etc, they may send you a head or the price of one, worth a try, on the plus side the guide didn't fall out and destroy the engine, it's an arse but an easy fix and not mega expensive. You can be driving for the weekend

  15. Aren't those engines sold as having new heads fitted?

If that is the case, then why does the head that you pulled off have the VW rework stamp on it? And a new guide would be loose, as the rework heads normally have oversized guides fitted to them!!
