Help needed, can anyone tell me how to wire in the submersible water pump to smev microswitch tap???

  1. Hi, Could anyone please let me know what wires go where to wire in the submersible water pumps and microswitch type tap units? The pump has a blue and brown wire, the tap unit has a black and brown wire. I'm guessing a live feed gets connected to one wire, the second wire then goes to the other items brown wire and then the last wire gets connected to earth so that when the tap handle is lifted it completes the circuit and water flows? But this is just a guess, wanted to check with someone who knows better, last thing I want after the rebuild is for her to catch fire because I've connected wiring up backwards or something lol.

    Thanks all.

  2. Well funny you should ask, I've just done the same job and after much trial and error, I can say....... Check out the post for the answer. Think it's title is smev microswitch tap. But yes, power in to tap, power out from tap to brown wire on pump, blue wire from pump to earth. I followed this and it worked a treat, apart from the microswitch in my tap seems bust cos it won't switch off. Good luck

it is a live in and live out then tap becomes your switch no earth

Probably melted if you put live and earth to the tap

  6. Hi, I don't understand what you mean by live in live out? Could you please explain. Do you mean both ends have Live feeds? I thought things had to have a positive and negative connection for electricity to flow through. Thanks.

Battery + to a fuse to the switch
    Switch to the pump
pump to battery - (the body)

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

My tap came with two wires, I fed a live feed to tap and the the other wire to the live wire on pump. Earth/neutral feed straight to pump. I did get the live feed on the wrong tap wire first so the pump blow bubbles , soon swapped and works good.

on the smev tap that is the switch take live from fuse to tap and from tap to the pump and pump to earth.
hope this makes sense as matty might confirm .

no the tap is a switch on live wire when turned on it gives the pump a live and when released the live is off hope this makes sense

matty please can you confirm is this correct ? how i have tried to explain

  12. Thanks, that makes sense, sounds like what I have just done. I've ran a line from battery + to tap with an inline fuse near battery, then tap brown wire to pump brown wire, then pump blue wire to earth point on underside of seat, battery had a chassis earth strap. I checked and it runs ok and I get water from tap so pump must be running in right direction, and more importantly it stop when I push tap handle down.
Thanks again all for the info. Off on a two week journey from Scotland to Cornwall and back in a couple of weeks so just getting all the finishing touches done so we're ready for the off, maybe see some of you nice folk on the roads.
