  1. Hi.
2ltr type 4 engine.whilst driving along earlier the engine noise went from a nice hum to a whack whack whack noise like something was trying to escape from there.pulled over seems to be dripping oil a tiny bit more than normal from fan casing.we are heading home tomorrow and was I desperate advice wether to drive home or rac it?any advice would be great.
    Thanks

rac, it already paid for you maya s well use it. better safe than sorry. could be bottom end

  3. rac it, just in case. if its a bad noise, i.e more than valve clearances you could damage the engine. is the oil level ok?

  4. loud engine noises = bad times... Mr Rac will have a listen and flatbed you home

  5. Thanks for the prompt replies greatly appreciated.the oil was a bit down so I topped it up but the noise still carried on.will give the rac a ring in the morning.thanks again.

  6. just run the engine as little as possible... last thing you want to do is break it more

    and good luck :)

  7. Check the central bolt on the fan, I developed a noise once, bolt was only hand tight. It'd never been off so no idea how it'd happened. I'd attempted to I.D. it but no joy as it was fractional...

Most drive into the ground when on holiday and regret it ending up on a flatbed anyway. Limit the damage and come home on the lorry - think of the petrol you'll save. :)

As Zes says, save on the gas money and let soneone else take the strain out of the driving. Keep us posted on the outcome.
