Hi all. I thought it was about time that I said "hello" as I've been lurking and watching for the past few months (that sounds wrong I know, but it's not meant to be!). I've just bought my first Bay window and after having a better look at it after parting with my hard earned I think it's gonna be a bit more of a challenge than I first thought! (My parents had a Westy when I was about 10 for quite a number of years but I was too young to do any work on it, mind you, it was only a couple of years old then!) It's a RHD tin top with twin sliding doors. It was stood on a chaps driveway for 2 or 3 years and has spent the past 5 years sat in the previous owners barn (at least it was out of the elements) but still needs quite a bit of bodywork doing. Attached are a few pictures I took last week when I went to see if would start and I'm pleased to say that with some petrol, a new battery and a turn of the key away it went. It came with the full length roof that's in the picture and a metal frame thing that's laid on the roof. Anybody any idea what the roof is? Not sure what I'm going to do with the roof yet. I'll get some better pictures when I get it home. The "boss" has said in no uncertain terms that I've got to get rid of some of my other toys first before I bring anything else home .
I like all the stickers on the windows. I am sure you will enjoy restoring it and giving it the love and care it hasn't had for many years. Good you rescued it.
looks like good starting point,am going make start my van soon, yours looks lot better then mine good luck,
Your right, the roof isn't fitted but came as part of the package. Flakey, the interior looks like a bit of a homemade attempt made out of some old kitchen units! The engine is 1970cc according to the log book. Type 4 if I'm correct?
Oh yes. He seems to collect stuff by the looks of it. Green bay 1980 which is a panel van conversion, Spitfire, Mgb GT, Type 25, fully restored beetle - 74 i think and a Mark 1 Fiesta XR2
