  1. hi all
i bought a t2 in south africa. ive had the engine overhauled and some body work done. Because its there and im here and i was wondering what your thoughts are about importing. I originally planned on keeping it there and touring southern africa with it instead of hiring a car everytime.
i really just want to know what it would cost, how you brought it over and if is infact financialy worthwhile bringing it over with the possibility of selling should i need to?

its a 2lt kombi with all the original interior and im in roughly 4k in it already.
    any thoughts?

  5. Welcome can't advise either ... it would probably help if you could give a bit more info on condition (both the bodywork and mechanicals)

  6. I'd import, you could always sell it if you change your mind and pick up another one in SA (and probably make a profit)

  7. Import. It seems tried and tested by top banana racing

I've looked into buying a bus in SA and driving through Africa, Egypt and Europe then selling it when I got back. Unfortunately due to various troubles and diseases in Africa and Syria there is a very good chance I'd never get back at all. If you can work out a fairly safe route up Africa then into Spain give me a shout and I may join you.

  13. Did you start a thread on VZi a few days ago?

  14. no mate. thanks tb

  15. the bus is solid coming from the karoo which is an extremely dry area of south africa. what wuld you say shes worth in pounds and would anybody be keen on her?

  16. I would expect a lot would be keen on it!
If it's as mechanically sound as the body looks, it's a real good un.

  17. VERY tidy 10k + ....
and they`ll bite your hand off

    :hattip:

  18. ive just completely overhauled the motor. from top to bottom and its running sweet. there is some surface rust coming through but the underneath is dead straight and solid.
