  2. They look like very decent hinges, that will properly support the weight of two people in bed!

  3. Bit more progress over the last week. Wheels been hit with primer - looking pretty fresh. :)

  4. Dash out to reveal the nasties underneath - and my shock at the cost a replacement upper panel behind the nose - albeit an original VW one.

  5. New face arrived so old one peeled off. New Deformation panel to fit as well.

  6. Final picture for today - Going onto other side to finish off on underside welding before more outer panel work and beams get dropped off for re-furbing.

  7. Managed to source a freshly painted up Devon 3/4 Rock n Roll Bed locally plus a set of 944 Seats which should arrive next week.

    Question time again:-

    1. Does anyone have a template/pics/sizes for the plywood boards for a Devon Rock n Roll Bed (3/4)? Do people usually make the ply slightly larger than the outline of the bed frame? Sorry if this is a slightly rookie question.

    2. People who have had seats re-trimmed, opinions on Vinyl vs. Leather. Been pricing up leather skins for the seats and they seem extortionate, especially when you take into account the cost of the re-trim in the first place. Anyone got a trimmers in the NW of England they could recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Things moving nice and quickly...almost as quickly as the bank balance depletes. Front floor rot replacement:

  11. Update time..Guys at the bodyshop have been busy over the last month and have made great progress so thanks to them. In many ways I wish I was trying a lot of the welding myself like many others on here but the reality is; I want to use the bus on a reasonable timescale and if I did it myself it would probably be 10yrs+. Also my skills with a welder are probably sub-obtimal for the quantity that was needed.

Anyway, popped the top up to have a look at the state of the original canvas and was VERY pleasantly surprised.

  15. Rear driver's corner needed some repair which ended up being a full lower corner panel replacement. Upper and lower engine lid panels sorted too. 26735120_971580702998668_1357220403_o.jpg 26772362_971580776331994_1565696072_o.jpg 26853658_973577539465651_1330196879_o.jpg 26853548_973577496132322_436261572_o.jpg 26854450_973577662798972_1561893899_o.jpg 26771896_972083402948398_327445047_o.jpg

  17. Pretty much it for now. Bodywork moving at a pretty fast pace. Colour wise we are thinking green to match in with the stripes on the roof canvas - we honestly didn't expect it to be salvageable.

Thinking of not reinstating the standard heating system and fitting a Propex heater; does anyone here have opinions or previous experience of doing this. I assume lots will have both Propex and standard systems running but is it possible to have a duct from the Propex coming both into the living area and piping it up to the windscreen de-misters?

    TIA, Jonny

  18. Had a test fit, feels OK, the electric motor can drop the seats lower so fingers crossed should be alright.

  19. Redneck paint booth attempts today. Wire wheeled the tank down, cleaned and waiting for primer to dry. Was too cold outside to paint really so space heater assisted for extra fire hazard danger! Just top coat to do tomorrow.

I know @1973daisey has his eberspacher linked into his stock heating system and it works very well.
I considered the same when I installed my propex but opted out because of the additional work involved ( I'm a lazy sod) having said that..I don't think its necessary .
I would recommend installing the propex in the usual one outlet under the bed or where ever else you decide to fit it and get the stock system working the best you can , that way you'll at least keep the screen demisted and have a little bit of a back up if you run out of gas or battery...
