Heating and exhaust question

  1. Hi all, not been on here for a while, busy busy!
Blew my engine up a could of weeks back, and done a full top end rebuild as one of the pistons had gone bang!
It's all built up so I'm starting to build all the tinware up once I've recieved a few new bits this week...
I digress... my question is, if I decide to fit J tubes instead of heat exchangers do I need go blank off anything on the exhaust aswell as the fan housing?
I'm thinking of fitting one of those Chinese night heaters.

    Thanks

  2. I think industrial engines that don't have heat exchangers have a heat shield between the heads and and the exhaust pipes

The heat exchanger is designed to contribute to the efficient flow of air around the engine ( at least as I understand it on a type 4 )
You may need a different under tin, as don't the originals attach to the heat exchanger.

  4. The J tubes have tabs that look like they are a direct replacement

  5. I've not seen any additional tin available

There was a thread on here recently with dimensions for a type 4 alternative tinwear.
Thing it's made rather than bought.

Free heat with heat exchangers v buying diesel for a Chinese heater. I’ll keep the heat exchangers.
