Heater Y piece removal - 1979 Viking

  1. Is it possible to remove the heater Y piece from a 79 bus?

Several welds have been removed and it is loose but just wont come out? It looks like the replacements are in 3 pieces so is that the answer? Nearside arm over the rear axle seems to be the problem?

Mine had to come out in three and welded new back in. Think they start with that piece and build the bus around it :D

  3. These things suck I just put a new one in mine was a right pain and yes had to cut it in three then tack back together and cover joins in seam sealer

  5. Its a difficult beast and I have recently refitted mine after extensive repairs. I had cut it in 3 and added collars for reassembly, you may also have to battle with a nasty sharp bit of metal welded to the top of NS torsion bar tube as a guide for either throttle of clutch cable. I bent this flat and re-bent upright when I had got the NS rear leg of the Y past. After I tack welded the 3 bits together I bound them with fiber glass tape buttered with filler. I am not sure seam sealer will deal with the heat but I might be wrong, you might get some interesting aromas in the cab. Have a look at my restro thread for Lottie page 7
