Heater pipes with 4 branch manifold

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Vancam70, Mar 2, 2019.

  1. What do I do with the heater pipes that go through the engine tin when I change for std to 4branch manifod? Do I just put longer pipe on from the fan shroud to the heat exchanger or there a trick ??

  2. longer tube through the holes direct onto heat exchangers

  3. Do you mean on a type1 engine...
If so I just used the foil type tubes and bent them between heat exchanger up to fan shroud. They did ok but if they touch the exhaust they can burn holes through.

  4. Yes type 1 engine . I don't imagine you can put tube through without it touching the exhaust .

  5. You can if you're careful. Might need to put a slight dent in them. Mine run like that and they're been fine, even with cardboard tube (although I've got metal now).

I find that I need the stock little bits of metal tube that go through the tinware, so I have short stubs of hose trying to avoid the header. These join to the little stubs under the tin.

If I feed the hoses straight through the tin they get sliced by the tin.
Also like this I only need to replace 20 cm long bits of hose under the tin, and the hoses in the engine bay can remain black cardboard.

  7. I suppose I could make up some solid pipe from the exchanger to just through the tin ,avoiding the exhausts .

  8. I'd have a go with just the tubes first. There are some pretty tight bends. Not sure solid would go round them.

  9. Thanks I've just ordered some so I'll see how I get on .
