Heat exchangers

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by vw newbie, Nov 18, 2019.

  1. Hello am I right in saying I can't run heat exchangers with this exhaust as it doesn't have the canister looking things on it to attach the fresh air hoses or am I wrong it's just the left hole is obscured by the exhaust
    Many thanks

  3. I fitted a stainless exhaust which didn't have the aforementioned canister looking things but I squeezed the flexible pipe past and managed to get things hooked up but I may have had more space, bit of metal bashing might do it

Similar to my vintage speed setup. You can just about sneak the hose round the pipe. It’s snug but doable. [IMG]

Just dont let the hose touch or the vibration and heat will forever be making holes in it.
I have a single quiet pack and also have to route hoses to avoid. In the end I used a shorter "disposable" piece that connects to a stock through tin joiner cylinder with a stock rubber seal

  9. I didn't realise there was a joiner at the tin

Il just add, avoid using that nasty looking silvery aluminiumish air hose. I had a bus in a couple of months ago that had got hot enough to set it on fire, which then set fire to the fuel hose that was resting on top of the air hose

It is intended for a stock exhaust where there would be a heater box and a clamp just below the tin, but it solves the issue of the tinware cutting through the paper/plastic/aluminium hoses through vibration.
