Heat Exchangers - Who makes the best new ones?

  1. Hi there

My heat exchangers are a bit tatty and make a a bit of a smell in the cab area. Thinking of getting some new ones but whats the consensus on the aftermarket ones?

    Thanks in advance

They're rubbish and will rust through in 4 years.
Stinky heating - You need to fix your oil leak. New HX's will stink on the first journey if they get oil leaked on them. Your old ones will stop smelling in a few hundred miles if you stop the oil leaking onto them. :)

Trouble is - fix the oil leak and the HX's rust away quicker.

Usually yes it will burn off, but I have seen then FULL of oil which needs tipping out really.

  7. could the smell be exhaust fumes if theres no oil leak? I have this problem, the lever on my rhs heat exchanger was knackered so I wired it open in an effort to get more heat in the winter, then I was getting a smell so i took the carbon monoxide detector from the house and put it on the dash and after a while it started bleeping. I assume the inner pipe must have a hole in it.
As for replacements, I've been looking around and there seems to be "normal quality" and "good quality" ones, at least being sold by heritage, I'm led to believe that these have fewer fins inside than originals, and if they'll rust through in a couple of years I might be better off getting some secondhand originals. Its going to be pot luck on how long these last depending on how much corrosion they have when I get them.
