Heat exchanger for J tubes

  1. Down in snowdonia for a couple of days so had a run down the A55 for over an hour, cruising at 55mph the temp was steady at 110 give or take 2 degrees. Max I hit was 118 when I pushed it a little or was going uphill. I was quite surprised how quickly the temp went up and down as I adjusted the speed. Was reassuring in a way.

  2. So not a scientific test by any stretch,but, up in the Lake District for a few days and temp didn’t get above 108 all the way up which is a reduction of 10 degrees compared with my trip the other week. This is with the additional tins fitted from buttys bits, thanks for the heads up.

    Hi. Apologies for reviving an old thread,but I’m swopping out my heat exchangers,for J tubes,on an engine that I’m just renovating.
    Was the engine running hotter with the heater boxes,or the J tubes?
     
  4. I wouldn’t want to say definitively that it was any different, the thing that’s improved cooling the most is reinstating all the missing tinware, renewing the seal and filling the holes in that the heater pipes used to go through.

    General rule of thumb: VW never fitted anything they didn't deem essential - otherwise it eats into the profit margins
