Hazards - or lack of..

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Chappers, Feb 1, 2012.

  1. Thanks to the previous owner, nothing was wired correctly - switches/relays/fuse box etc.

I now have headlamps/high beam/low/flash thanks to a new relay and correct wiring.

I have also replaced installed (there wasn't one there) the hazard relay, I can indicate L/R but no hazards when I pull the switch.

I have part number 211953235A - but is missing terminal 58b (according to wiring diagram) which is supposed to be for dash light dimmer (?).

    1979 USA Type 2 Westy.

Have the po's installed the incorrect switch? or is mine just buggered?

    Cheers

*any typos due to fingers warming back up.. tis cold I tell thee.

  2. Terminal 58 connects to the instrument light supply. On the hazard switch, connecting this up makes the switch glow at half-brightness at night, so you can see where it is. Believe US busses had to have this.

If the connection's missing, won't affect operation of the switch - look elsewhere :(

PS If you're buying a new switch, get the Brazilian one with this terminal fitted (has a small resistor on the top). Worth having!

  3. That's the one!

Best to work through the wiring, mebbe take the switch off & test continuity through the contacts. I think the diagram shows its innards.
