Hi my camper had a type 4 engine fitted back in 2009 , looking at others whilst I was at the new forest dub show , mine engine seems different from the other type 4 engines , I want to fit a blower as currently the heat exchangers are blocked off , had a quick look but didn't notice any wiring either , does this mean the original engine was an upright ? Trying to work out how to attach a photo! Popsy is a 1972 late bay Thanks
Quite possible it was once a type 1 , I've done the same conversion and retro fitted a snail fan wired to a switch up front, not difficult. Interested to see pics to see why you think yours might be different ?
Looks exactly like a type4 to me You may have looked at one with different carb set up or Fuel Injection.
That's the same setup as mine. Yes you do have room for a fan. And you have the extremely rare (and valuable) throttle return spring.
First job is check out the condition of the exchangers and risers plus all the heater pipe work and control cables, heater will work from the engine fan if everything is in order, snail fan only makes a small difference
Oh, and while we're at it......shift the fuel filter to underneath the van next to the tank outlet. Edit: whereabouts in the country are you?
Thanks guys I love this forum ! Flakey I suspect the whole system needs a refurb, though I think the heat exchangers are ok sandy bay I was planning on changing the filters (there's 2?) but hadn't thought about moving them , good idea
Ah, a bit far for me then, I'm in cambridgeshire. There may be a TLB'r down your way who could pop over and chat about your van whilst drinking your coffee and eating your biscuits.
I may be driving through later whilst picking up a car, will update when I know. Alternatively I'm the other side of Oxford if you're passing. I may have some of the tins you need and a cheap option on the fan if you're handy with a saw.
almost certainly was a lawnmower engine before as there is no inspection hatch ......hence why no fan ......not the end of the world tho very slim chance it was one of the first type 4 engined bays which never had hatch ...
Sorry , just seen your message ,so annoying, I'm in the middle of painting my house and didn't have the phone on me , maybe another time
