Im considering getting all our old family photos scanned and was wondering if anyone has ever had that done and where is the best place to go?

I know the first thought is DIY but the thought of scanning 2000-4000 images and naming, cropping, rotating them etc does my head in and would prefer to just hand to someone else.

I have had a little look into it and some places seem reasonable and others cost the earth.

Any info from people who have done this before would be ace.

  2. Hell, I'll do it for $200.
Seriously though, I thought I was lazy. ::)
Just spend a rainy afternoon sorting them into small boxes or folders of 50 to 100 or so. Then just try to do one box every week or two. You'll be finished before you know it.
And if you do it yourself you will understand the filing process.

Come to think of it, how in the world could a complete stranger who doesn't know anybody in your pictures organize them anyway? He/she can't go by names, dates, or anything. Seriously, do they just randomly feed pictures into the scanner? Will Grandmother's 80th birthday photos get shuffled in with your bachelor party?

Lol since you put it like that.

I am not a lazy person just the thought of going through 2000+ photos and scanning them and cropping them all seems like it would take a year.

But after your speech maybe I will start it anyways and see how it goes.

  4. Sorry. Didn't mean to sound speechy, just razzin' ya. ;) Plus I really was curious about how a professional could possibly organize them.
