Good garage experience. (Not vw)

  1. my daily broke dramatically today, i suspected the driveshaft, it wasnt a great experience. Limped home and phoned a local garage. Said he was busy and couldnt fit it in till later in the week. I said i needed it so id have to phone around to get someone onto it pronto. He suggested i limp round to the garage and he could at least spend a few minutes to diagnose the issue then if i was phoning round i could let them know what the issue was. Anyway. Went round he put it on a ramp . Confirmed the driveshaft and said if he could get one he'd put it on and if there was no collateral damage anywhere else he'd try to get it back to me tonight. That was about 3pm. at 4:30 he called. Driveshaft fitted . Paid the man and back home just after 5! Now thats pretty good going. He did also find my oil leak(driveshaft seal on the other side) topped me oil up and seal ordered, car booked in for friday morning for seal.

Cost 170! Drives fine and that slight vibration i couldnt pinpoint is gone. I thought it was a wheel out of balance. Obviously its been on its way out. Incidentally, typical ford poop. I had it changed 2 years ago!

  2. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Whereupon a pattern part was fitted. Some of these driveshafts are so badly made they will never come off again without dismantling gearboxes. I think we're quite lucky that the crap we have to fit to our vans is at least simple crap.

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

I had a good garage experience the other day by removing my van and spending three days fixing it myself with the help/guidance of a former RAF aircraft engineer.

Also finding that my local VW dealership sells parts cheaper than a UK supplier.

  6. Glad you`ve had a good `un - my latest was a bummer .... :(
Moved down `THAT London` and thought i`d found a decent `local` welder / garage , always got a van or two in the yard - good omen ?
I knew mine needed a few bits and a small amount of welding . He put it through an MOT (his own) and quoted £3-400 .
Cutting a long story short , he had the van 2 weeks during which time not much seemed to happen . Parts came to £67 and he charged his time at £80 per hour . I always expected it to be more but my mistake wasn`t asking his rate .

Bill came to just under a grand ....

    Bloody London prices .

    :hattip:

  7. Did you get a snog as well?

  8. That would be telling.

    Lasty and snotty like this.
  9. Spill the beans Dickie.....I'm curious to see if it's my mates garage.....

  10. Possibly not. A lot of garages in notts but it was Wollaton Auto Centre. On trowell rd.

  11. Twas indeed not my mates place...his is called PVS on Glaisdale Drive. Would have surprised me if it had been him as he's usually a miserable bugger.!!

  12. I do actually use them but this place was closer to limp to. Theyve fixed mine and the mrs car a few times and indeed are very good.bthey were next on my list
