Hello all...I haven't posted for about 2 years but I have been lurking! The problem was that I kept forgetting my password.Senior moments.... I'm up in the Torres Strait on a six month contract which mercifully ends in 5 weeks time. I've been on Masig, Yam, Mer and Boigu islands...from volcanic rocks to sand cays and mudflat islands. On Boigu you can see the border with PNG as a smudge on the horizon.Accommodation and working conditions are nothing to write home about.I am earning every measly cent.... And why was I forced out of retirement....my VW!!!! I drove it from NQ to Perth and back in 2017...best trip of my life so I'm hoping to go around Australia next year. I've had a second battery and driving lights installed and the 2L engine has been rebuilt. It's a tin top but I prefer cooking and sitting outside any way. I will try and relearn tapatalk so I can post some pics. I've sort of promised my mate that I will go to Scotland with her next year so it would be cool to meet up with a few of you along the way. Welcome back - never heard of most of those places ( and didn't know that Fernando Torres had a strait named after him) . A trip up to Scotland sounds good - I must do that sometime too - only 150 miles to the border.

I’ve just had a thought, if Don is back on Face book there’s a good chance he’s been keeping an eye on here, I told you lot not to dig him out, I’m so glad I stayed out of it
Teacher.My kombi is safely at home.Off to Poruma Island tomorrow.Its a sand cay island so far more pleasant.I have teacher accommodation on Thursday Island which is the main island.Stock up on veggies etc.Little bus picks me up at 6 am and takes me to wharf to catch ferry to Horn Island where another bus to airport then 8 seater plane.Magnificent views of the reef from the air. Massive turnover of staff every year..isolation, expensive food and feral kids.Huge expense for teachers to fly to TI and then south for holidays.
Evening! Looks like we are two wanders returning to this shore. Give us shout if you are coming down the east coast of AUS, got a few friends all down the coast so happy to meet up on a stopover if you do your second lap of this amazing island. I'm north Brisbane, they are a couple of others who I knock about with around this area who are on here as well.
