Apart from it being too small, uncomfortable, loud, uneconomical, expensive to tax?
    Nothing!
Getting a pushchair in is a farce.

5 door and cheap to tax ideally.
Not bothered petrol or diesel as it'll only do a few thousand miles a year. Mileage not important as long as it's been servced etc.
Would consider a 1 series as well.

For the mileage you need petrol or you'll spend big £££ on replacing DPF filter.

This is diesel. Under £5K £30 a year road tax

How often does the DPF need changing on a diesel?

  11. more often if you do short journeys around town. it needs a good hot thrash down the motorway now and again to clean it out. for the mileage a petrol does sound a better option tbh

  12. and after writing that, "more often" doesnt help much. it does depend alot on driving style and conditions. I think on my tiguan from what i read it should last 100 to 150K miles

  13. 1 series isn't much bigger than a mini - they're tiny compared to a golf.

agree the mini is pants - swmbo had one and it didn't stay with us long.

for that low miles i'd definintly go petrol.

have a look at skoda octavia's too - its' all golf underneath but usually cheaper to buy and has a bigger boot. i'm on my third...

I'd look at Octavia but don't want 2 "big" cars.
I'll be looking for a new one in the next few months and thats likely to be the family car.
It'll go Bristol - Nottingham every few months so the DPF will get an ocassional blow out anyway.

  15. Look at vw jetta's as well, golf with a boot but cheaper I think

We've looked at a few Golfs, Polos and 1 Series' today.
The golfs were tatty and the Polo was pov spec. The 1 Series were ok and plenty big enough for a run around for the Mrs and little'un.
Second hand car salesmen must go on a lot of photography courses though as they can make nails look great!
