Girling front calipers can I fit others?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by 79pickup, Jan 2, 2019.

  1. My late bay has the Girling 2 piston front caliper fitted, it has the 60mm pad gap and the brakeline comes out of the middle rear.

Now I rebuilt these about 2 years ago but I took so long getting the thing on the road they have started to play up again.:D ( they work but pistons bind after a while)

So I though I’d just get a replacement pair and be done with the hassle, rather than rebuild again, problem is the Girling calipers are not that common(not from what I could see) compared to the other make available. They seem to be fitted to latebay and early t25s?

So question is could I fit the more common caliper and do away with the girlings? Obviously I want the same stopping power so if I have to stick with those I will!

    :hattip:

ATE will fit okay as will the ones VW Heritage sell for 73 to 79 bays (obviously checking with the supplier first).

I got mine refurbished by Big Red. Superb job , they come back like new and powder coated in a colour of your choice.

  5. The Brazilian ATEs should be fine. You'll likely have to make up new short brake pipes.
