getting a key to fit a lock...?

  1. so, I have a US bus and have just learned that there is no key to fit the locks. I have a key for the ignition which appears to be an aftermarket jobbie as its not a standard type VW look key.

So, I have loads of old spare VW keys - is there anyway to reset the barrels locks on each of the doors to suit one of the keys I have? I'm sure i've read it on here before but can't find it in the search function
    :)

  2. ok, so after another search I found the how to...

You wont be able to make them match the ignition key though (assuming it's a new one).

You could just order a key from the number off one of the locks Joker. Chances are it'll fit everything except the ignition.

David - can't you match the ignition to the locks? Or isn't the ignition lock do-able? I have this problem with my 68. No ignition lock, all the others match.

I'm trying to get hold of an original. Mines drilled out, but I have it to compare. I had a look today - there's a plastic insert stopping the leaves springing out. I remember now having one to pieces by prising this out. It's do-able. The big hassle is taking the steering column to pieces to get the housing off. I've already done this and re-assembled so ready just to pop in the barrel. My steering lock has long since vanished - I bet joker's has as well.
