  1. For many years I've been with orange and EE, unfortunately i struggle to make and receive calls on a dally basis, its a joke.

This is a point i think everyone should be aware of, If you struggle to make and receive calls you can leave your contract.

EE (Your not allowed to leave Sir you have another 18 months on your Contract)

Me' So! not interested i'll send the phone in the post and as for the number you can keep that too!

EE ( You will have to pay a penally for leaving £480.

Me" can i pay you in lead.

    EE' No sir

Anyway after several attempts at resolving the problem they have conceded! Yeah

    I don't care about 3G 4G 5G or and blooming G

  4. signals depend on your location - best thing to do is to check the different network coverage in your area. I'm with O2 and get a signal anywhere in my house, many of my neighbours are with EE and have to go to the top floor! :D

  5. If you are in Yorkshire, usually the best place to get a signal is the foot of the stairs.

Stairs? We only have a ladder and we can only use it when the wife's not wearing them!

    Use this to check coverage

It gets me that the phone companies hark on about 4 or 5g but you still can't make a bloody phone call (2 or 3g) in large populated areas on this island.

Can anyone explain why I can get good coverage with giffgaff (which uses o2 network) in my area, but put an o2 sim in the same phone and the coverage is non existent?

  15. Does it actually attach to the network when you put the O2 SIM in?

Yes it does. You can just about get a signal if you walk far enough down the road, but it's useless compared to Giff gaff in the same phone. o_O

  17. A mystery. Is the Giff Gaff SIM actually attaching to O2?

Trick to changing seems to be to go to Carphone Warehouse. They seem to have little difficulty changing contracts if they sell you something in the process.

Problem is as you go faster your range drops. 2G has no problem with 35km and 9600 bits/second..
5G offers you 100s of megabits.. and a range of 100 metres because the air starts absorbing the higher frequency microwaves needed for the bigger bandwidth for all the users..

There are simple physical laws that define that basically you need to recieve a certain amount of energy to decode each data bit. Go 10x faster and you need 10x more power for the same error rate, or be 3x closer to the base station .. it is physics which cannot be defied by any level of marketing BS.

5G will need a base station in every street light to work reliably and then it wont work in the back garden...

Like a more expensive kind of wifi..

I think he knows that a "mobile" is exactly that, ie it isn't attached to the wall with a lead (arf arf!)

    Explain me this then ...
My Dad's phone cannot access the WiFi in his house even though everyone else's device can, including his laptop ... AND ... he CAN access WiFi everywhere else
