Brut? Surely not, you're never a Brut 33 man, are you? Old Spice maybe, or a bit of Hi Karate, but Brut? You never can tell....
The engine has to be removed first to get the gearbox out Sarah .Or take the gearbox out with the engine together in one piece . They both have there own advantages . The engine and box taken out together means ideally you need two trolley jacks one under box and one under the engine and lower together . When putting back it's quite nice to just fit your gearbox to the engine on the floor and not have to line the engine too the box and all that faff ...only thing you have to watch out when you drop both together ...make sure the gear stick coupling at the back of the box doesn't catch on lowering and when re fit . A motor bike jack with a good wide bit of strong plyboard is brill for underneath the engine . Mines a type 4 which are a lot heavier so it's ideal .
You may need to swap the bell housings over as well, as earlies didn't have the top two mounting bolts that late boxes have. There, I managed to say bell, and box, and mounting, without sniggering.
I was trying to find out what types of seals you need for swapping gearboxes, but all the websites kept mentioning flanges and I had to give up as I kept sniggering
Shame on you If you’re just swapping boxes, you’ll just need a bellhousing gasket, if you’re swapping them over. Else, nowt.
