Gas bottle checkers

I always wonder how much gas is left in the bottle ... sometimes I think I return them too early just to make sure I don't get caught short. Does anyone use a bottle checker device thingy and if so are they any good/recommend one to me?

 

I used one - absolute rubbish , said it was 1/2 full when i ran out , 3 times ...

I use 907`s and now carry a half size 904 as a spare when the 907 runs out - easy

 

Absolute garbage dont waste your money! Just weigh your bottle! Or shake to feel liquid weight sloshing around!

 

Just weigh them. The empty weight of the cylinder is stamped on the cylinder add that to the weight of gas.

 

Never noticed this, will have to have a closer look.

 

Sorry to take this thread off topic but how long in 'normal' use are full 907's lasting in your experience?
Yes, before you all deride me, it all depends on use, but boiling kettles a few times a day, cooking breakfast and heating stuff up and possibly running the 3 way fridge when camping...

I use 7kg calorie gas for the bbq I couldn't find the weight ... ?

 

I use two , sometimes 3 907`s a year with normal cooking and occasional fridge use .

 

I used to use 907 s but now use 4.5 kg they are almost half the price and twice as much gas . Last ages ,, on 907 fridges suck . Just switch off at night .

 

Or fill a 907 from a larger butane!

My uncle was a gas bottle checker. There's no money in it.

 

Pour boiling water over the bottle, the condensation will show you how full or empty the bottle is.

 

Better still, cut a hole in the side with an oxy torch. The distance you’re thrown across the driveway will indicate how much gas was in the bottle

 

Better fun is to fill your garden with gas on a still day by sticking a screwdriver in the ball valve of a cylinder you want to dump.
Then let the gas spread out until it finds an ignition source. Cheaper than cutting the grass but standing in a lake of burning propane/butane is not too good for health.

Ranks alongside filling wheely bins in the garage with petrol when theres a tanker drivers strike so the vapour ignites when you turn on the garage lights or similar.

I can't find the reference to the guy in Woolston Southampton who did the second one.

 

Just drill a few holes at different heights when you get liquid coming out that’s how much you have
