  1. ive got my 1600cc single carb engine out making it look pretty i was going to fit the fuel pump back on earlyer but ive hit a bit of a problem. the push rod at its highest only sits out the plastic pedestal at 3.75mm and this is without a base gasket fitted

i have a bently manual and it says it should stick out 13mm. I have had a little look on the net and found out that an alternator fuel pump push rod is shorter, but i cant find anything about it in the manual. also when its at its lowest setting it sits just under the plastic pedestal so iam getting around 4mm of travel is this correct or I,am I missing somthing before i removed my engine i had no problems with the pump worked fine
heres a pic of my pump and pushrod

  2. How long is your existing pushrod?

    Assume you've got an alternator?

  3. yes i have an alternator and the push rod is 100mm thats the one for the alternator pump i just cant find any info about how much its ment to stick out i dont want to fit it all back together if something is not right

  5. 13mm from tip to the bare casing would be about correct if the actual stroke length is 0.160" Yes I know its in inches but I've not got any tables in front of me at the mo. :))

Equaly if nothing has been radicaly disturbed and it ran perfectly okay before then the stroke must be correct.

  6. in the book it tells you to measure from the top of the plastic ive been having a bit more of a look my pushrod measures 100mm and on the net it says the dynamo pushrod measures 108mm the bently manual must be talking about the dynamo pump and rod i thought it would give both measurements

  8. it ran fine before i just wanted to check if the pushrod was right. i was thinking if the rod wasnt coming up high enough, someone at some point might of bent the bottom of the pump to take up the slack does my pump look ok i have nothing to compare it to. This is the first aircooled engine ive worked on and if there is a problem with it i would like to put it right while its out

  10. the only other thing i can think of is the distributor shaft that runs the pushrod i took a quick measurment of how far down it is and its only just biting on the two tegs of the distributer maybe someone has fitted it without the washers on it and its sitting in to low. it was getting to cold at this point so i need to have another look
