Fuel Injection help needed in Berkshire

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Bathtub57, Apr 12, 2017.

  1. Anyone know a good mobile FI expert in Berkshire? I have a running but cutting out on accelerating 2.0 1976 motor.

I don't want to mess withit myself and I don't want to convert to carbs.

    Cheers

^^ have this once a year! Should clean the tank but can't be bothered. That's what filters are for;)

  8. Thanks all - I know FI can be a nightmare and I don't want to start guessing. Fuel tank, fuel lines, pump and filter are all good or new. The engine has not been run for many year and idles fine. Google shows pages and pages of people having similar problems, most appear not to get resolved. I'll keep checking and reading but ideally want a fairy godmother to wave a magic wand and I can have thousands of trouble free motoring..

Anyway for what it is worth...

The van starts and idles great. The first two or three miles is wonderful, smooth, powerful and just what I was hoping for. Then..... foot down, engine hesitates, and you have to feather the accelerator to keep the engine running, it picks up for a second then goes flat again. It gets progressively worse until there is no power at all. All the while when you pull over it's idling fine.

Fuel pump is new, it's the eBay one mentioned on a thread on here. It's noisy, very noisy I'm not sure if that's the way it should be or it's a faulty unit or something else is causing it to be noisy? It's mounted on bobbins.

That plastic Y peice is hanging out of the S boot for a start, quite likely splits in it and possibly other hoses. It's a very important part of FI air leaks aren't good.

Also go onto he samba and download the AFC FI troubleshooting manual

  13. ...good call, also the s boot itself can develop splits along the ridges which happened to mine.

To be honest every cotton braided hose is probably original and brittle as hell, it's the first thing I'd be looking at.

  16. Cheers Flakey, I'll get onto the hoses. Not sure on the dissy, I'll take a look in the morning and report back.

Dammit, I wasn't going to do this myself....!

The fuel pump will be a bit noisy, if it's very noisy, check your fuel
    Filter and fuel
Lines , blocked fuel lines cause running issues and noisy fuel pumps
