Not that I’m going to buy one but I have a question related to beams with missing bump stops. What acts as the bump stop; the dampers bottoming out or the tyre hitting the wheel arch or the ball joints locking up?

It would probably be sensible to have dampers of the correct length with integral bump stops, but I wonder what the normal solution is.

  2. Good question 77Westy but I guess it may be a case of all three - does anyone who has fitted an aftermarket beam on here know?
(I have to speak to the beam supplier tomorrow as I have another issue so I will ask)

The current problem I have come across today is when going to fit the shock absorbers back on, the tube for the shock bush doesnt fit into the whole in the beam. See photo

So my options as I see it are -
enlarge the hole in the beam ? OR cut a section off the shock tube bush one side? OR buy replacement shock absorbers without the extended tube?

The other issue I have is down at the bottom where it fits onto the stud - see photo

This is down to me as the suspension arms came off a complete prototype bay beam I bought in error (see my post on 31-12-13) and even though they are interchangeable the lower shock stud is shorter

So I guess my options here are either buy prototype bay shocks which dont have the long shock tube bush OR cut of a section of the bush both sides OR clean up my old lower arms & fit new ball joints and swap over? (this will mean dismantling what is currently installed)

As usuall thanks for your advice in advance.

  3. forgot to mention that the shocks are only a year old and with under 3000 miles of use.
