    Its worth what it costs.
With proper insulation and installation it will work as well as any other 72 watt continous drain coolbox. And about as well as your existing coolbox.

Bodged into your Devon under sink coolbox, designed to work with dry ice on top, nearly no effect on the temperature unless you keep the air feeding the fan cool and you upgrade the insulation from 1mm thick vacuum formed polystyrene sheet...
Otherwise you are just heating the cupboard with a 72 watt heater..

There are several reasons why a proper compressor coolbox costs more like £500.
    1. It works properly
    2. Two heat exchangers separated by pipework through the insulation.
    3. Small production volumes
    4. Why not, people buy them at that price..

  3. only any good if you are on hookup to keep your battery charged or only use it while driving. it will eat a leisure battery in about 2-3 hours i would say

  4. Yep, no good if you're planning on going off grid, otherwise good value for money, especially compared to a Dometic CFX series fridge/freezer. Mind you having ice on tap when off-grid camping at festivals is a great way to make new friends :)

I wasn't planning on bodging it in. And it would be properly ventilated.
it wouldn't be used a lot off grid. The Mobicool one will last a couple of days if I'm careful anymore than that we'd normally have hookup

For off grid are you not better off with a duel gas/electric fridge using the gas?

  7. Depends on the type of fridge. Absorption fridge that runs on gas or electric, will better off grid on gas. An efficient modern compressor fridge will run a whole week from a fully charged leisure battery.

....or indefinitely from a decent spec solar panel installation ;)
Our cfx Dometic has not been switched off for 2 months now and sits happily in the bus at 3 degrees

  9. Sounds good. Does it make any noise?

probably yes but that would mean spending £500+ quid on a new fridge and another gas supply as ours is a Devon swing out cooker

That would be the next step to add solar, I've seen your setup at Techenders (very impressive), but we don't use the bus enough to do it :(

If your asking about the link i put on, i have no idea, but the only moving parts are the small fans, similar to a pc and our coolbox, so i'm guess not a lot

for about £30quid & some time I could make the devon coolbox a bit more usable for us

  13. Sorry, was replying to @theBusmonkey about his compressor fridge.

  14. I've recently bought one too, on the strength of the advice received, very happy so far, they make fridge like tick over noises, purring, if you will? Not enough to wake me up.

Its not noisy, but it does make a noise when the compressor kicks in. It whirs, as the fan runs, and I thought it may be a problem at night.
I can honestly say we don't notice it. What is more offensive is the led display which you cant dim or switch off. I've got in the habit of draping a t shirt over it!
It's a small concession tbh as the unit is awesome and as @F_Pantos alluded to previously they will deep freeze. Earlier this year we used it as a freezer, -21 I think, when we travelled on the boat down to Birmingham and back over a couple of weeks. All off 12vdc:thumbsup:

  18. I replaced my "coolbox" with a secondhand Electrolux gas/12v RM122. Cost £30 and it's worked perfectly for 23 years! There are plenty about from scrap caravans.

my first idea, unfortunately they are too wide :( and I've never found a narrow fridge to fit

  20. Ummmm  Just measured mine (15" wide), and it fits perfectly in the space in my Devon Moonraker. May vary with make/model/year of the conversion though.
