French Road Trip - Ideas and thoughts very welcome

  1. We've camped in Northern France at Municipal sites and overall they're great. We were a little green at the time so didn't want to travel too deep in. That'll change next year as we're hoping to drive into Spain via Lyon and the South.

I wouldn't book anywhere, just take a book so you know where the sites are. That way you're both happy. Also, some of the loos aren't always sit down in the North and the fellas' urinals are open backed. As mentioned upthread don't forget your spares kit/tools and your Euro med card.

Might see you pootling around Sheffield...you're not far from me (S11)

    Hi Phil,

I live in Southern Spain and we have driven back and forth to the UK quite a few times over the past years, Unfortunately we always mean to record our route and where we stopped and usually forget :-[ However, I have remembered a few. We stayed a night last year at the site in Dinan Camping La Hallerias that PIE mentioned. It was nice and there is a 15 min walk up the river from the camp site into the old town. We also stayed on a site at Camping Soliel on Ile de Re over the bridge from La Rochelle this was on the beach - tho at low tide it was sludgy as they fish for oysters I think in the mud. We also stayed a few times at a municipal site in St Flour which is good for a stop over if you go via the Millau Bridge - the town Millau is very nice but that may be further than you want to go. We have stayed at a site near Paris Camping de Paris - Du Bois de Boulogne. that was again fine for an over nighter tho it was December and snowy when we stayed! The people were helpful as it was quite difficult to find - we had to go in a kebab place and find a North African who also spoke English who could translate the difficult bits while we on the phone to the owners! If I remember more I will post. I think July should be fine for getting in to sites. The municipals are much cheaper and are clean tho a bit basic if you want to impress your girl friend with camping! :D

Here is a photo of the Dinan pitch and one of the town - we were lost and so followed a camper hoping they were going to the site!

we are driving back beginning of August and planning to go West coast France and use the normal roads rather than Motorways so any recommendations you make will be appreciated :D

Bon Voyage ;D ps you may also need a hook up adaptor.
