Flaps & Thermostat range of movement

    That’s the knackered one - you can see it nearly fills the bracket space. So it’s near fully extended/flaps open position as it would be if it were working and over the temp rating rating.
    The flap return springs will return the flaps to the open position and will also exert a little bit of tension on the broken stat which will tend to pull it out a bit more toward or until either the stat hits the bracket or the flaps hit full open, depending on how the linkage is adjusted etc.

    I have bent the curly arm that connects the pushrod to the flap so that now there is only about 10mm required to go from open to closed and bodged a bracket for my mexican thermostat and I'll use that until I can find a bellows and then bend things to suit whatever that expands by!
