Fixing extra seats

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Dub and Dubber, Aug 17, 2018.

  1. Without head restraints (or maybe even with), it would be neck-snapping time in an accident. Passengers hitting the seat frame/bulkhead would likely be badly injured as well.

If you must have an extra row of seats, have them in the middle, facing forwards, as VW had them.

Would definitely be restraints ... and I'm going to see what the relevant safety body (?) says about this, but' I'm looking now at the differences between
    1) passengers sat in a middle row, forward facing with a bulkhead in front of them to jacknife "flexion" their heads into.
Most so called whiplash injuries I've dealt with are more about pelvis and hip injuries from when the top half of the inertia belt keeps going a bit longer/further than the lap part)
    2) passengers sitting rear facing with restraints that stop neck "extension" which would be the first "whip" for them as opposed to the secondary whip for any forward facing passengers.
Beginning to think the forward facers would be worse off ... Given the lack of a deformation panel in t2a's it's not as if vw look like they were up to speed with crash dynamics around 1970 ... and how come they started padding the bulkheads in the US?
If the relevant people say that it's too much of an unknown mod to put in rear facers, and if the original middle row (plus restraints and inertias) has their seal of approval, I'd consider that, but frankly at the moment it's looking like "four passengers, like it or lump it" .... and "done the research, and there's no way of ensuring a reasonable degree of safety for extra people"

So they want a cute camper for their wedding but they want seats for 5, That’s a bit like wanting a cottage with big windows

If you want lots of seats get a micro bus

Dub and Dubber and snotty like this.
  4. I don't think that would work. Normally, bridesmaids have to be fork-lifted into the van on a pallet, so you'd need the full width of the door opening.

    You read my mind ....
That's what I'm beginning to think ... trying to be "all things to all people"

I was hoping to be able to offer five in the back but basically it looks like being too much hassle to get it right and safe for more than three in the back ...

    :D
let's not forget Brides with "heft" .... What I originally had in mind was for two in the back, but so many people ask how many does it take I started looking at ways to take a "group" as opposed to a Bride + one before and Bride + a different one after!
There's the whole photos thing of course .....

  9. I can do three and one rear facing but you will need more powerfull engine if not careful anyway, with two upfront ? :D

Were you offering your bus? ... If so :hattip:but this is planning for "full business use", not a one-off.
    It's a 1600 tp ...
It would have taken up to seven in the US but there are a couple of b******d hills around here that might not be avoidable, so it's looking more and more like just me + four....
and having had a glimpse into the dreams of @snotty and visions of laydeees of generous proportions, maybe less:rolleyes:

  11. No but six in on detling hill and your be quicker walking :D
