FITTING AN 091 BOX TO A 1776 IN A 72/3 LATE BAY

  1. oK I have a CE gearbox currently. i am getting my 1641 improved to 1776 and have the chance of a 091 type 4 gear box. Does anyone have a " how to " for this please.

I have heard that I might need to change the starter, clutch ( currently 200mm) also that the lower engine speed in 4th might be an issue. Is it worth it?

    Help anyone?

  2. the 091 input shaft is longer than your current 002 box as well as starter motor nose lenght differences etc.

simple answer pull the bell housing and input shaft from the 002 box and fit them to the 091 and your done use all your old bits no need to buy anything except the bellhousing gasket which is still available from vw for less then £10 ;D

  3. cheers mate, how easy is it to remove the input shaft from my 002 gearbox. Is this an easy thing to do. never worked on a gearbox before. just engines.

  4. that's a simple thing to do, but it depends on whether you're having a much stronger engine in terms of torque - you would benefit from the bigger clutch. If you want the bigger clutch you need the bigger flywheel and 2 litre starter motor
    :)

  6. Great reply mate.
    Thank you.

  7. I'll buy the long input shaft off you if you want to sell it?

    Let me know a price?

    Thanks
