Fire suppression systems

  1. Afternoon All!!

As I'm sat here trying to digest 20 tonne of chrimbo food and a few cheeky whiskeys I thought I'd start looking for my next upgrade.

I've been through the forums and seen pros and cons for all sorts of systems... One discussion I noticed people pooling together to order a few of the same system as a bulk buy.

SO.... ANYONE ELSE LOOKING FOR A FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM???

    HoHoHo!!!

  3. First step: check/change your fuel lines.

  4. Best fire suppression is to eliminate the cause - no upgrade necessary

  5. As said prevention is better than cure. Make sure all your fuel lines and breather/filler hoses are in good nick.
If you want a decent extinguisher system for the engine bay Blazecut are the way to go. However a bit pricey.

Or the more simple extinguisher with the heat sensor trigger on, JK do them

  6. Yeah everything in my engine bayy is all new and set up correctly I'd just rather have it there "in case" rather than not and I have a bus on fire . @Gooders blazecut is the one I've been looking at. Looks a good bit of kit and doesn't get in the way!

  7. @snotty @Lasty worth the money just as prevention or if I'm top of stuff just a waste??

  8. I have a 2m blazecut in mine, and would not fully trust it as the primary source for extinguishing a fire.

I will try and find the article on them by way out westy.

Engine bay extinguishers cannot put out the puddle of burning petrol under the bus.
I needed half a dry powder extinguisher for the engine bay (yuk messy and corrosive) and the other half under the bus for the burning puddle.
Fuel shutoff solenoid made the fire manageable. Was back on the road the next afternoon after splicing burnt wiring.

Carry at least a 1kg powder extinguisher as well.

I wouldnt bother with a single point auto extinguisher. A fire the other end of the engine bay may delay triggering : the PVC on my sound insulation and wiring melted (>65C) only over the fire, at the other end of the bay it was barely touched by the flames.
Blazecut that fires at the point where the tubing is so hot it melts is much better .
