Finally found the M-Plate

Finally found the M-Plate today after several months of boy looking. Confirms that it used to be a right hand drive delivery van with a sliding door on the left. It's paint colour was originally neptune blue with canyon brown leatherette (?). It's birthday is the 7th September 1978 although it's listed as a 1979 model. It must have had a camper conversion at some point.


I feel more at one with my bus now!

 

Weren't all commercial bays Neptune Blue?

 

Where was it?

 

i've never found mine, the panel behind the passenger seat was cut out before i got her to fit a captains chair

 

I think panels can be jaffa too!

 

It was under the dash on the top of one of the heater channels. Only really saw it when I removed the glove box.


Woody Lubber, I have a panel behind the driver's seat but it's not the m-plate. Some sort of other production plate. Worth looking at the heater channels at the front.


Finding it means that the front hasn't been replaced as I previously thought. Whoever did the spraying though must have been on something judging by the number of colours I've found on the bus!

Theres a suspision that mine may have been an emergeny wagen in its early years

 

I did the brass rubbing thing as well. Made me feel all nostalgic!

 

If you guys have spotted yours, I may have to go up for another look on mine. It's a '75 but the l/h bulkhead was cut off for a captains chair as well so may have gone. If I apply for a birth certificate will VW tell me all I need to know?
