all removed wires are back on, i did originally forget to connect the coil

dafty question, has the relay got a built in fuse (some relays we used to have at work had small ones encased in them)

no idea mark and if it has it wouldn't blow unplugging the connectors and pushing them back in

I very much doubt there are any fuses in the engine running department, you wouldn't want it to cut out while driving because some fuse had blown. :)

True, t'was worth a long shot

We had that one, but ricky hid the power feed to the coil behind the battery. After I nudged him that there should be one, he remembered and found it. There was also a feed into the loom from the -ve on the coil, but no direct feed to the double relay unless that was the one in the loom.

If we'd had t'internet and a few more hours to spare would have tried this. :) Too late now.

So, @rickyrooo1 that wire tied up near the starter should be attched to it to power the fuel pump on startup. I expect yours only starts normally (since you removed this wire when you changed starters to a single terminal one) because the air flow meter manages to switch on the pump instead. Pity we didn't have access to TLB. :) Unless of course the starter wire to relay doesn't actually come direct from the starter, but spliced off somewhere back up the loom and that "spare" wire is in fact as you thought off to the computer socket. I wondered about that as never seen one before.

that wire tied up has never been connected even when the old starter was on with it's 2 terminals

if i recall it's red and white - suppose i might have a run up ed's tomorrow and drop a double lucar on to see if it helps but i know for a fact it's never been connected while i've owned the van

  12. If you go over do the AFM wiper or the flap test, ignition on and move the wiper under the lid or push the flap to see if the fuel pump runs then

  13. im sure we would... if we could ....:hattip:

This diagram on the samba link shows it as red and white... I think you've only ever had the flap controlled supply to the fuel pump.

Usually it's full of petrol too.

  16. Remove the air filter box so you can see up the air inlet. You should be able to see a flap, you can then push this while the ignition is on and you should here the pump turn on. If it doesn't then there is a problem with dual relay or wiring from dual relay to pump.

  19. Sounds plausible
