  1. I am thinking of buying a Cool Air Big Bore (1654cc) block. Has anyone had any experience of these or any comments?

Cool Air as a shop in general have a great reputation, but I can't say about engines specifically.

I think Cool Air source their engines from Remtec so you could aim your research at Remtec engines rather than Cool Air engines.

  5. I took my old lump to TES, they refurbed it to 1641 specs, I picked it up and installed it, ran fine at tickover but when revved it just spluttered and died, phoned up the dude at TES and he came out and sorted it for me...hasn't missed a beat since 8)

I have read some scare stories about a lot of companys that have got bad press from unhappy customers, you pays your money and get what you get. I was happy with TES, the lump had a problem, they were cool about it and sorted it out, but bear in mind I am local to them.

In the end you could get a bad engine where ever you get it from, yes even Laurie! Because things go wrong. So as long as they have a 12 months+ guarantee and they seem reliable then go for it.

Be aware some company's warranty may not fully cover you if you fit the engine yourself esperaly if you are using your old ancillarys.

  9. Thanks for the advice everyone - lots to think about. I think I need to do more research.

  10. TES for me too. They even kept that horrible red paint off the block at my request and so far it's been 1100 miles trouble and drip free. :)

    Touch wood though!!!
