Engine now dies at traffic lights

  1. If you're happy it's shutting off now and could just be as said earlier fuel on the plate inside running off. Could try rebushing that spindle.

  2. Yes, just leaking from the right hand carb. Got a facet electric pump with no regulator.
Read online that bushes may take up the slack but the issue is that fuel should not sit on the inside above the throttle plate?
Will the bushes make it fuel-tight?
    Can you get the bushes?

As you say, fuel should not there if the needle valve is shutting off correctly.

I would fit an extra washer under the needle valve first. The new ones are physically a slightly different size to the original Solex items, and sometimes need the extra washer to bring the float height down.

If nothing else, you should be getting good at whipping the carb off by now!

  6. Not sure if it's been said.. some gasket sets come a bit thick making the needle valve sit high, try the washer , bushes is you want to try them are a few quid from @nobody I think quite an easy job

  7. Update..put a washer under the new fuel valve (which I measured and was shorter than the oem one)..probably about 0.8mm thick...run the bus for a few minutes, just got a very small amount of fuel seepage. Tried again & got none the next time, so think we are getting there!
Gonna give the bus a good run tomorrow if it's dry & if I get any seepage, I'll put another thin washer under the fuel valve.
're the original posting (the engine not ticking over), it does tick over now, although only about 500-600 rpm. Again, I will check the tickover speed after giving it a good run tomorrow & report back.
I tried turning the item speed screw ( on top of the left carb) out a little (it is currently wound all the way in) and it does drop the idle speed..maybe I need to keep screwing it out till it speeds up again?
Thanks again for all the help & advice..think we are nearly there!

  8. Close now then . ..Should speed up as you screw the big idle one out. If you disconnect the air hose next to it you can hear air sucking in.
