This is also to do with whether you have fitted a "brutal black" or a "gentle grey" seal.

To make a black seal work on mine I had to pare it down with a sharp knife to make the seal less deep..

  5. Doesn't anybody grease their striker plates, (that all of them).

  6. Mine is a black seal, it may be the original one, it may have been replaced in 2002 - I can't remember.

  7. I can't adjust the striker plate as I can't turn the bloody screws!

I did remove the engine bay seal, clean behind it and re fit it.

All seems to be working OK again now.

Im sure it will do it again when least wanted - like when im about to set off on holiday and need to check/top up the oil.

  8. Resurrecting an old thread. Is it the top pin you drive out to dismantle the lock? I plan on reshimming the lock so it works off the same key as the others. Thanks.

  9. I’m pretty sure it’s the top one yeah, I think the bottom one is just the pivot point for the latch

  10. Yes, it's the top one, thanks. I managed to get the lock fully working and locking with my original key by making one good one from two.

I assume all the shims would be populated by the factory? Can anyone confirm?

I got all but one shim fitted and working and I'm just wondering if I should persevere getting the last shim fitted...I don't have an unused shim that fits, so it would be out with the file.

  11. Probably best to file a wafer down to fit rather than leave it empty, I had to do the same on a couple of mine

  12. That's what I was thinking too. It's odd, at least two of the wafers I have are missing a side, I wonder if that's factory, or not, have they been filed already? IMG_20191105_080211~2.jpg

  13. If they have then they’ve filed from the wrong side, pretty sure the thicker end of the wafer is the bit that protrudes out of the slot and it’s that you need to file flush. Could be that one got snapped when the lock was forced sometime in the past

  14. I did wonder if it was made like that, the upper tab is more offset than on the four sided ones, could it be factory? Otherwise, bit of a mystery, there's no sign of luck damage, nor does the lock look like it's ever been apart before; there's two wafers just the same.

Grease and maybe round off the edges of the latch where it has squared off.

To release screws like those on the striker plate, penetrating oil and a 2.5kg hammer on an impact driver may work.
