Definitely will be fitting pressure and temp and maybe CHT. It's a 2056 type 4 with webcam 86b, all new bearings and pro rebuild by a mate. I've been looking on eBay for the fabled 30quid Audi set of gauges - more like 100? I really don't want a dipstick sender for temp and I'm not mad about a sump plug version but I don't think there's another easy option, is there? Haven't look for a CHT gauge yet.

  2. I wouldn’t fret about CHT gauge. Interesting to have, but oil temp’s good enough for a general indication, IMHO. No real alternative to a taco plate on a type 4. The dipsticks work really well on a type 1.

The Audi gauge sets are getting pricey if you can find one. The gauges themselves work fine with the standard VDO senders folk sell.

It works fine in the oil pressure relief valve plug. https://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=11976

Is this the same hole where the std oil pressure switch goes? I'm guessing not - please would you tell me where I find it?

No, it replaces the pressure relief valve cover – the thing with a big screwdriver slot in it. I’ll see if I can find a pic.

  6. But if you don't like the sump or taco plate conversion locations probably won't fancy this either as it's bottom of case.

  7. Top tip if you’re wiring them up Mark is to use a run of multi-core trailer cable under the van. Tough stuff, and will have a extra core for your rear fog light

  8. Oooo trailer cable.. might be needing some of that.. with all the worry stuff I'll be adding soon..

This is the best I can find. Blue arrow marked ‘OIL PRSSR RELIEF VLV Not used here’.

I like this option as it's recessed and the wire won't get ripped off.

I would if it were a retro-fit but as I'm building the loom from scratch I'm running wires for everything and a few spares for later

  12. That oil strainer nut label should just say "leave the f#$@ alone!.. "

    It should indeed.

  14. I added some cheap ass digital ones.
    Oil temp.
    Oil pressure
    CHT

Used a 1/8th NTP braided t piece from demon tweaks for the oil pressure. This allowed the Addition of the sender while keeping the original pressure switch.

Also boatyard and buses taco plate to 10mm temp sender.

Also 5m K type thermocouple wire for the CHT gauge.

  15. It should be labelled "Crack crankcase here".

  16. have Vdo dual sender and has been fitted for years always seems reliable and easy to spot differences. On engine rebuilding its only single relief and the temp sensor for this fitment I have been informed is not the most accurate so looking at fitting in case once I work out the Npt sizes.;)

  17. The case tappings will be metric, not NPT ;)

  18. Just remembered another option.. sandwich plate between filter and holder but only if you have a type 4 or external oil filter added.

  19. Jeez what a great idea:thumbsup:, do you know the current rating for the cables? where can I purchase trailer cable. Ill be fitting it to Karmann Ghia (sorry)

  20. This is probably a newbie question, but here goes. If I replace the plug in the photo with the alternative CSP plug with the facility for an oil temp sender ....... will it alter the spring tension?. if so how do I correct it? Is there a good flow of oil in this area to give a realistic reading, or is it somewhat restricted flow? Thank you IMG_2246.JPG
