  1. So I had both my batteries out to charge them over the weekend, in preparation for the start of the season and volksworld and all that. Unfortunately, because I park on the street, I can't charge them in place, which is a shame.

Anyway, I put them both back in and she fired up lovely. Except...

Fuel was breaking loose from the pipe from the fuel filter down to the fuel pump.

I am about to march down to Halfords to get new pipe and probably a new filter.

Any quick hints? What size pipe is it? [IMG]

Is that filter between the pump and carb??

  5. Get a new filter while your there, Get a Mann one the outlet will probably be 2 sizes :) then move it

  6. Move the new filter between the tank outlet and the metal pipe, definitely out of the engine bay, and that way the filter would pick up any tank rust particles before the pump.

Fit the fuel filter behind the firewall and before the fuel pump ....with old crud in old tanks best change filter every year at least .....unless you have a new one or cleaned it out

  9. If you have the time get some codan or gates barricade ordered... save changing it again next year

  10. So what I am seeing here is that filter is in the wrong place. I honestly don't have time to fit a new filter behind the fan housing, but if I understand things correctly, it is pretty pointless having one where it is. Just gonna put 5.6mm id pipe between the top and the bottom to get me running again.

  11. Get down to your friendly local motor factors and buy some 6mm Gates off the reel. Then clamp it up.

When you have the time, stick the filter under the fuel tank, where it belongs.

Won't take long to sort it properly , get plenty fuel hose the type that Snotty suggests . You don't want carp going into your pump and clogging it .
Fuel contamination is one of the biggest causes of breakdowns in petrol and diesel engines .

  13. Your problem is that having it where it is it is on the pressured side of the pump. For now replace the piece that is leaking as a full piece between pump and carb, put a new filter between the tank and pump, if need be inside the engine bay. Once you are back replace the piece from tank to pump and put it over the gearbox.

  14. 10 minute job fitting a fuel filter under your tank.... with the right gear. Make up a length of fuel pipe with filter attached. Clamp the fuel hose beneath the tank & cut. Remove old hose then replace with new..... done!

  15. Ok, so I got 1m of 5.6mm pipe from Halfords, but oddly, I just noticed that the old pipe says 1/4".

If I have it right 1/4" is more like 6.3?

I don't know where the local motor factors is and I don't have any daylight hours to work on it, so I am going to try and fit this.

I am only half an hour from sandown for volksworld. I am guessing that getting better pipes from there could be my best bet.

If you see a burning bus on the A3 on Friday, wave.

  16. 1/4" is really too large to clamp up properly. 6mm is normally ok. 1/4" often sold as 6mm, even though it isn't.

Use the Halfords 5.6mm pipe, I had pieces of that which lasted quite well , years, certainly longer than the horrible fabric covered rubber. The Halfords stuff is FI line so it can take the 4PSI of our fuel pumps in its stride.. I think its max is 200 PSI.

I am now a convert to Goodridge 200 stainless steel braided nitrile pipe. Because I can. Its only £35 a metre.

You can use it as fuel line or brake line.
